2. Embroidery

We were lucky to have an embroidery machine. Here is how we used it.

Everyone would get an embroidered block. Most designs that come with the machine use 3-5 thread colors and take about 10 minutes of stitching time. Stitching a frame around it adds 5-10 minutes. We calculated that we will be able to stitch one block for each of 10 quilts. We did it during first 5 classes (2 or 3 at each class).

Here is how it was done:

  • kid chose the design from the instruction book of the sewing machine.
  • kid chose threads from the big collection.
  • kid chose surrounding frame shape.
  • kid chose frame line style and color.

After this, adult would run the machine: load the hoop, make all selections, and change thread.

    It was fun!!!
