Ruched Flowers

There are several kinds of ruched flowers. All of them add dimation to your applique quilt.

Take your strip and stitch from side to side with running stitch.

You can mark if you feel like being precise. I do not mark straight strips and results look fine to me.
This is how my strip looks after stitching.
Pull the thread to make it ruched.
This is too much - fabric becomes stiff.
This is just enough - front view.
This is just enough - back view.
Flower 1: small one.
1. Stitch 5 times from side to side according to the picture.
2. Ruche it, form a flower on a background.
3. Applique it.
Flower 2: just petals.
1. Stitch about 20" of ribbon.
2. Ruche it.
3. Baste middle of the flower on the background. 3. Form a circle around the middle with ruched ribbon.
4. Applique one side of the circle to a middle and another to the background.
Flower 3: spiral.
1. Stitch about 40" of ribbon. 2. Ruche it. 3. Starting from the center form a spiral. 4. Applique this spiral on a background.
Another type pf flowers is made from circle
1. Cut 5" circle.
2. Mark and stitch around turning raw edge.
3. Ruche.
4. Position flower on a background.
5. Applique petals.
6. Stitch through fabric in a middle.
Finished flower.
Another flower.
This one has less petals than previous, is little bigger because it was gathered lighter, and less even because it was not marked.
